My interest in journalism started when I was a kid selling newspapers in the village, as I had the opportunity to read some of the stories.
At secondary school my interest grew in current affairs, photography and writing. Later I became Student Editor of the School magazine. But my father opposed the idea when I wanted to train as a journalist. The reason? Too dangerous a profession. But thank God , he reluctantly obliged. ( I don’t think he regretted granting my choice, and neither have I. It may not be a well-paid job but it does create an indescribable inner joy to see one’s article in print or hear one’s work on radio or television or on a blog).
Journalism makes me ask questions.
It keeps me learning always, meeting people, exchanging ideas, thoughts, feelings and experiences with them .
Me and Development Cooperation
The entire humanity will see no peace so long as sections remain below the poverty line. In light of this, I think it is important to work together to minimise poverty as much as possible.
Solutions to development problems in societies may differ. But it is important that in tackling problems, comparing notes may be helpful.
Me and Africa
Explorers claimed they ‘discovered’ Africa. I beg to differ. Neither an African nor a foreigner can claim he has full knowledge of Africa. The ironies and the paradoxes remain puzzling .
Africa is still a vast unexplored continent with a lot more to understand about its people and resources. Let’s be modest, tread carefully with an open mind in exploring and ‘discovering’ or learning about or reporting Africa.
