It is my belief that in the cultivation of a truly democratic society one must be equipped to realise the potential that society possess and be able to harvest those potentials and turn it into the tangible. This belief is driven by the theory that political empowerment does, after all, begin with self-motivation. Journalism is a powerful instrument that can play a vital role in this empowerment process. I feel that I can use the resources at my disposal to promote empowerment on various levels through my stories.
Me and Development
Journalism as a tool of communication is a global network that is constantly reinventing itself and is key to highlighting development issues. I know I would be able to use this experience as a foundation to feed my passion for taking news about important issues affecting communities in the far flung parts of South Africa to decision making hubs.
Me and Africa
I’m passionate about Africa and South Africa in particular. The continent has a lot to offer –it’s rich in culture, natural resources steeped in history. South Africa has undergone a remarkable transition from apartheid into democracy with relative peace – and from this political evolution some of the greatest stories of human triumph and personal struggles of extra-ordinary people emerged. The African continent remains under-covered and under-reported by foreign press and the coverage when it does come is often if not always portraying Africa as a dark troubled continent. There is among the strife and struggle many positive and inspiring stories.
